#1 Tip for Networking as a VA

Are you shying away from virtual assisting because you associate it with MLM type sales, gross marketing to your Facebook family, and DMing your high school friends you haven’t spoken to in years?

Well, it’s not 🙂

Do you want to know my #1 networking tip for virtual assisting?

Hit Play:

Ready? Grab a piece of paper and write this down:

You (the VA) collect their (the potential client) contact information.

THAT’S IT!

Pretty simple, right?

Here’s the thing. Networking feels terrifying. We think we need to run out and buy business cards, go to big events in windowless banquet halls, and hand out our contact info and then wait by the phone.

Nope!

When you are interacting with a potential client, bring control into YOUR hands. This is YOUR biz.

Conversations with potential clients don’t have to be “salesy” and gross. Just get curious because remember, you have to like them too, right!

    1. Connect with the potential client – ask them about their biz, what they do, who their market is, how long they’ve been in business, what are their growth goals, etc.
    2. Share what you do and let them know you’d be interested in further discussing whether you can support them with [x,y,z].
    3. YOU collect THEIR contact information.
    4. Assure them that you will send them an email to schedule a call – this demonstrates how you are already taking tasks off their plate and making their life easier.
    5. Send an email recapping your conversation, how you could help, and offer them 3 times you are available to connect —  follow-up in 3 days to help them stay on top of this very important task.

Done.

As a Virtual Assistant, your job is to REMOVE tasks off a potential client’s plate, not add them on.

If you give them your contact information and hope they will find time out of their busy schedule to reach out to you, then you may be left waiting by the phone.

It’s time to say “adios!” to business cards/
