Q: Why did you want to start a Virtual Assistant business?

A: I lost my job when the pandemic hit and I live in a town that thrives on Tourism. It was time to embark on a new journey.

Q: What type of job were you working in prior to running your own online business?

A: I was the Business Development Manager for whole food plant based cafe and retreat centre.

Q: Who is your ideal client and what about them do you love?

A: My ideal client is someone who is in the health/wellness/coach realm and someone who practices what they preach. So often business owners are selling something related to health and wellness yet they are not sleeping, exercising or eating properly. It is important that I feel aligned with my clients and that they are honest and act with integrity.

I love having the opportunity to grow a business and then I myself grow within the business. I love supporting others, but want to feel my contribution is of value. I would say authenticity, alignment and contribution are very important to me.

Q: What do you love most about virtual assisting?

A: I love supporting others. Freeing up their time so they are able to focus on what is really important in their business. This is why I like working with clients in the health and wellness space. If I am able to free up their time then they are able to help more people rise to their fullest potential with the services they offer. I like being part of the big picture and supporting with their big vision. I am not the most creative person and after spending quite a bit of time working with visionary creatives I see they have a million ideas and dreams, but often have a hard time putting them into place. This is where I come in. They see a vision I would not have imagined, but I break it down and actually put the pieces in place to help take them where they need to go!

Q: What has proven to be the best way for you to find your unicorn clients?

A: Referrals 🙂

Q: What is one piece of advice that you would give other women who are thinking of starting a VA biz?

A: Go easy on yourself. The learning curve is steep and does not really seem to end. Finding ease and flow will take time. I think you really need to trust the process and trust yourself. You can do this and you are worth it. There are going to be bumps along the way and that is ok. You may likely work with challenging clients that are not your ideal clients and it might not feel aligned, but that is ok. It is all part of the learning process and each experience you have will make you a more savvy business owner. Also I think it is essential to stay connected with others in the VA biz. I joined Rebecca’s Alumni coaching program and it has been so helpful for me to have a little crew of boss babes to connect with on the regular. The support is really helpful and I don’t feel like I am going at it alone.

Q: Tell us about your VA biz and what services you offer!

A: I have been in business for over a year and suppose I am still a bit of a “Jill” of all trades. I continue to learn and grow based on the needs of my clients. I have not found a “niche” just yet, but I am ok with that. I am booked to my capacity and I have great clients so I am just allowing things to flow before I make my next step.

Q: As you know, VAing can unlock the freedom we crave in our lives! What do you love to do outside of work?

A: I like doing all of the things! I always felt restricted in my 9-5. I live in a ski town and always wanted to ski mid week, but never had the chance. Or sneak out for a bike ride in the middle of the day. Now I can do it all. My activities change with the seasons but I LOVE hiking, biking, paddling, camping, yoga, singing, dancing, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and doing a lot of it with my little dog Quinn. My happiest place is outside in nature.

Q: What has been the most challenging part of starting your VA biz?

A: Deciding what to charge! I have spent my life allowing others to tell me what I am worth, but now I set my prices. I have learned a lot along the way!

Q: What inspired you to enroll in the Wanderlust Programs?

A: I lost my job and then I heard someone mention the Laptop Freedom Program Program. I literally had no idea what I was going to do and as soon as I jumped on the phone with Rebecca it seemed it was the obvious next best step. And here I am a year later running my biz and being my own boss. It is not always easy, but I never in my life imagined I would be an “entrepreneur”!

Q: What does your “day-to-day” look like now that you run your own online business?

A: I wake up and do my yoga and meditation practice. I then sip my tea and do a bit of work to get the urgent things taken care of. Then I head out for a run, hike or walk with my dog. I come home and get to work. I will head out for another walk later in the afternoon. Or now that summer is here I will end the day at about 4 and head to the lake or go for a bike ride or a paddle. Depending on my workload I might come back and work another little bit in the evening. Spending time in fresh air and nature is what truly lights me up so I love that I have more space in my life to enjoy those things.

In the regular 9-5 I could only do what I love on weekends or before 9 or after 5…yuck! I can’t believe I lived with such restrictions for so long. Oh yeah….and I worked in a windowless office for years. Seriously!!! Who even allows employees to work without windows!!

Q: You know how much we love to celebrate wins! What is a success in your biz that you are most proud of?

A: Being booked out and almost replacing the salary from my 9-5 job while actually working less hours!

Way to find your freedom and create a life you are in love with!
